Dave's Hot Chicken Opens in Seattle This Week

The Emerald City has found itself in the grip of a spicy new obsession: Dave's Hot Chicken. This LA-based chain, notorious for its fiery fried chicken and long lines, has landed in the heart of Capitol Hill this week, igniting a culinary inferno that shows no signs of abating.

Since its December 5th debut, Dave's has witnessed lines reminiscent of a pop concert – eager customers snaking around the block, braving the chill for up to an hour for a taste of the legendary Dave's Fried Chicken heat. The restaurant's signature spice levels, ranging from the mild "No Spice" to the tongue-searing "Reaper," have captivated the city's interest, fueled by Tik Tok, Instagram, and other social media videos and pictures of the fiery dishes and glowing reviews.

But Dave's Hot Chicken is far more than a mere spice show. The deceptively simple menu focuses on the crown jewel – juicy, perfectly-cooked chicken brined for 24 hours and hand-breaded in Dave's secret seasoning before being fried to a crispy golden perfection. Customers can choose from tenders, bone-in pieces, or the signature "Hot Chicken" sandwich, all customizable with a range of spice levels. Sides like creamy mac and cheese, crispy fries, and refreshing kale slaw complete the satisfying experience.

Eastlake resident and spiced chicken enthusiast Sarah Miller waited patiently in line on opening day. When we spoke to her, there were at least twenty people between her and the front door. "I had Dave's in Los Angeles a few months ago and was definitely hooked," she said, and was grateful that the closest Dave's Hot Chicken location is now much closer. "Obviously I was thrilled to hear they were opening in Capitol Hill. I had to be here on opening day in my hometown, but I can't be eating food like this every week."

Is Dave's Hot Chicken healthy? Of course not, no more than any other fried sandwich or other fried foods. If you're looking for Dave's Hot Chicken nutrition facts, no information can be found on the Dave's Hot Chicken website at the time of writing.

Dave's Hot Chicken's opening this week adds to the many other fried chicken options available in Seattle. The opening of Dave's Hot Chicken coincides with the nearby opening of Mt. Joy, a competing fried chicken restaurant that promises to elevate the fried chicken sandwich with a focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing, and plenty of buzz about regenerative farming.

So, gather your courage, brave the line, choose your spice level, and try Dave's Hot Chicken for yourself. Just pack comfortable shoes, a warm coat, and be prepared to stand in line for your sandwich.
